Marina Cardenas is a character in the television series Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Marina married Hector Cardenas, and they lived in the Cardenas house in Bergsberg, Montana, where they had a farm and a motel, the Cardenas' Family Motor Inn. They had a son, Arnold Cardenas.[1]

One night in the 1950s Hector and Marina were driving and witnessed the arrival and landing of a boat, the The Infant, Male, Pollock, Francis, in a field outside Bergsberg. On the boat they found an infant boy, which they took into their home and raised as their son, named Francis.[2]

Francis had reality-editing powers, and manifested his dreams into reality. One day in 1966, Francis had a nightmare that created the Purple People Eater, but he made it disappear when Marina soothed him.[3]

Marina and her husband often fought about money, the farm and the motel. When the Kellum Mining Corporation wanted to buy the Cardenas' land, Marina wanted to sell, but Hector was against it, which intensified the fighting.[2]

The '67[]

In 1967, Marina by herself sold the land to the Kellum Corporation. She returned home that night with a new car Kellum had bought her.[2] Hector was furious, and during the altercation Marina stabbed him in the head with a pair of scissors, killing him.[4] The force also broke two fingers on her right hand, the right index and middle finger[5]. Marina then saw her son Arnold outside the kitchen, who had seen everything. She went to leave and pulled him along, but Arnold rejected her and stood his ground with his brother Francis. Marina then left the house and drove away in her new car, which flew off into the sky.[4]

The car ended up in a treetop, two miles away from Hector's body[5]. Marina had died or died at some point, her body remaining in the car in the tree.

Fifty years later, the car fell out of the tree and her body was discovered by Todd Brotzman and Farah Black, and then taken to the Bergsberg County Sheriff's Department by Sheriff Sherlock Hobbs.[6]
